Manitoba’s Future in High Performance Computing - Digital Ag Conference

This Thursday, June 6th, we're excited to have Sightline CTO Dr. Mark Alexiuk speaking at the Digital Ag Conference. Mark will be sharing a talk on Data Trusts as Enabling Infrastructure for Digital Agriculture. The event will be running from  7:30 AM - 5:00 PM CDT at Eckhardt Gramatté Hall, Centennial Hall, University of Winnipeg.

Manitoba’s Future in High Performance Computing will have a focus on the application of HPC to agriculture.

The rapidly expanding field of ‘digital ag’ is a critical growth area for Canada and Manitoba and involves the collection and processing of massive amounts of data, as well as the use of machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced computational methods which are available through HPC.

Dr. Alexiuk will talk about the challenges faced in agriculture today: climate change, pests, demand from a growing human population (2030 SDG2 zero hunger initiative), ethics related to food production and land use.

Advanced technologies are being employed to address these challenges and many organizations are taking action, from grass roots initiatives to international initiatives.

Attendees will learn about state-of-the-art technologies used in precision / digital agriculture and highlights the value of a data trust infrastructure to support an environment of data governance and sovereignty in which digital assets (datasets, AI models and business insights) can flourish.
